Meet the team
Rod Gethen
Managing Partner
Rod is a Managing Partner of Pencarrow and has over 30 years' experience in investment management, acquisitions, divestments, valuation and corporate advisory and restructuring. Prior to joining Pencarrow in 1994, Rod worked in Auckland, Sydney and London within the corporate finance practices of Deloitte and PwC and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.
Rod is currently on the boards of Umbrellar, Essano, The Collective and The Interiors Group.
Nigel Bingham
Managing Partner
Nigel is a Managing Partner of Pencarrow and has more than 25 years’ experience in private equity, mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance. Prior to joining Pencarrow in 2005, Nigel was a partner with investment bank, Cameron Partners, and earlier an executive at Fay, Richwhite. Nigel has a BSc (Hons) First Class in Statistics, an MSc with Distinction in Mathematics and a Diploma of Business Studies in Finance.
Nigel is currently on the boards of Netlogix, RedShield, New Zealand Frost Fans and Pacific Clinical Research Network.
Jonathan Goldstone
Managing Partner
Jonathan is a Managing Partner at Pencarrow, a member of the investment committee, and is based in the Auckland office.
Jonathan worked in investment banking for Morgan Stanley prior to joining Pencarrow, where he advised public and private companies on a broad range of M&A and capital markets transactions. He commenced his career with UBS, working in both Auckland and New York in its investment banking division. Jonathan holds Bachelor and Master of Commerce (First Class Honours) degrees from the University of Auckland.
Jonathan is currently a director of Avanti Finance, Netlogix, Skin Institute, and The Collective. He was previously a director of Icebreaker, Seequent, NZ Frost Fans, Umbrellar, Interiors Group, and alternate for BrewGroup.
Philippa Weston
Partner
Philippa is a Partner at Pencarrow and has over 20 years' experience in investment management, including strategic planning, corporate governance, operational and financial management. Prior to joining Pencarrow in 2012, Philippa was Head of Investments at Kiwibank and was previously AMP Capital Investors’ Chief Operating Officer. Philippa is a qualified lawyer, and holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration.
Philippa is currently a director of Essano and Skin Institute and was previously a director of solarZero and MMC.
David Watt
Partner
Dave is a Partner of Pencarrow and is based in the Auckland office. Prior to joining Pencarrow, Dave was a managing director at investment bank, Jarden, and has over 20 years’ experience in mergers & acquisitions, divestments, corporate finance and capital raisings.
Dave has a BCom in Finance, and an LLB (Hons) from the University of Otago.

Hazel Martin
Investment Director
Hazel is an Investment Director at Pencarrow and is based in Auckland.
Prior to joining Pencarrow in 2017, Hazel was in London working in private equity and corporate finance roles for John Lewis and the Walt Disney Company. She commenced her career with PwC in corporate finance. Hazel holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Canterbury and was a CFA charter holder 2015 - 2019.
Hazel is currently on the board of Pacific Clinical Research Network and was previously a director of Umbrellar.
Geoff Romijn
Investment Director
Geoff is an Investment Director at Pencarrow. Prior to joining Pencarrow in 2018, Geoff worked in the corporate finance team at Deloitte in Wellington as well as working in London with corporate finance roles at Colt Technology Services and United Biscuits. Geoff holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (First Class Honours) from Victoria University of Wellington and is a CFA charterholder.
Geoff is currently a director of The Interiors Group.
Henry Lynch
Investment Analyst
Henry is an Investment Analyst at Pencarrow. Prior to joining Pencarrow in 2022, he worked in the Corporate Finance team at PwC in Wellington. Henry holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Otago.

Our History
Founded in 1993, Pencarrow is one of the most experienced private equity managers in New Zealand. Since its founding the firm has invested over $600 million of equity capital in mid-sized New Zealand businesses.
Pencarrow is currently investing from the Pencarrow VI Investment Fund LP, which reached its first close in June 2022, and comprises $300 million in committed capital.
We have a proven track record of delivering strong returns in a range of economic conditions and portfolio cycles. Our investors include high net worth individuals, family offices, iwi, community trusts and institutions. We pride ourselves on providing an extremely high degree of transparency to our investors.
